Spason
Description
TiemoniumMethylsulphate is quaternary ammonium antimuscarinic agent with peripheral effect similar to those of atropine. It strengthens calcium bonding with phospholipids and proteins thus stabilizing the cell membrane of the GI tract. It is absorbed from intestines. The half-life is 3 hours after oral administration. It is fastly eliminated in renal way and bile duct. Composition: Spason Tablet: Each film coated tablet contains TiemoniumMethylsulphate INN 50 mg. Indication: Spason is indicated for the treatment of muscle spasms of the intestine, biliary system, bladder and uterus. It is also indicated for pain in gastrointestinal and biliary diseases and in urology and gynaecology such as gastroenteritis, diarrhoea, dysentery, biliary colic, enterocolitis, cholecystitis, colonopathies, mild cystitis and spasmodic dysmenorrhoea. Dosage and administration: The usual dose is 2 to 6 tablets (100 mg – 300 mg) per day in divided dose as required. Side effect: Side effects include dryness of mouth, difficulty with micturition and constipation, risk of hypotension & tachycardia, occasional retention of urine in excessive or over doses. Contraindication: The drug should not be used in glaucoma, difficulty to urinate, tachycardia, myocardial infarction, pyloric stenosis and acute edema of the lung.

Drug interaction
The effects of Tiemonium may be enhanced by the concomitant use of other drugs with antimuscarinic properties, such as amantadine, some antihistamines, phenothiazine, antipsychotics and tricyclic antidepressants. Precaution: Caution should be taken in cases of chronic bronchitis, coronary insufficiency, renal insufficiency and hepatic insufficiency. Use in pregnancy and lactation: It is better to avoid taking the drug during pregnancy and breast-feeding. Storage: Store in a cool and dry place, Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
