Presentation
Spanium Tablet : Each film coated tablet contains Tiemonium Methylsulphate INN 50 mg.
Spanium Injection:Each 2 ml ampoule contains Tiemonium Methylsulphate INN 5 mg.

Description


Tiemonium Methylsulphate ( Spanium ) is an antispasmodic drug. It reduces the muscle spasm of the intestine, biliary system, bladder and uterus.

Pharmacology
Tiemonium Methylsulphate (Spanium ) rapidly relieves spasmodic condition through the inhibition of intracellular proteins by competitively antagonising acetylcholine and histamine and stabilizing the cell membrane by strengthening calcium binding with membrane phospholipids and proteins.

Indications
Spanium is indicated for the treatment of spasm of the intestine, biliary system, bladder and uterus

Dosage & Administration
Tablet: The usual dose is 100 mg - 300 mg (2 to 6 tablets) per day in divided doses as required.
Injection: The usual dose is 5 mg (1 ampoule) by slow IM or IV injection 3 times per day

Overdosage
In over dosage, no data is available in case of Tiemonium Methylsulphate but there is a possibility of peripheral effects and other symptoms such as hyperthermia, hypertension, increased respiratory rate, nausea and vomiting may occur. A rash may appear on the face or upper trunk.

Side Effects
Tiemonium Methylsulphate may have some undesirable effects in certain individuals like- risk of hypotension & tachycardia, especially in case of injection.

Precautions
Caution should be taken in cases of chronic bronchitis, coronary insufficiency, ambient hyperthermia, renal insufficiency and hepatic insufficiency.

Contraindications
The drug should not be used in glaucoma (acute pain of eyeball with vision disturbances), difficulty to urinate (disorders of prostate or bladder), tachycardia.

Use in Pregnancy & Lactation
The use of this drug is not recommended during pregnancy or breast-feeding, unless indicated by physician.

Spanium Injection:Each box contains 1x5's ampoules in blister pack

Drug Interaction
The effects of Tiemonium Methysulphate may be enhanced by the concomitant use of other drugs with antimuscarinic properties such as amantadine, some antihistamines, phenothiazine, antipsychotics, and tricyclic antidepressants
