Xcel Plus
Description
Xcel®Plus is a combined preparation of Paracetamol andCaffeine. Paracetamol has analgesic and antipyretic properties with weakanti-inflammatory activity. Caffeineis an alkaloid. By intermolecularassociation with paracetamol, caffeine increases the solubility andtransmembrane permeation of paracetamol.In addition, caffeineincreases the pain threshold and tolerance of pain.

Indications and Uses
Xcel®Plus is indicated for the relief of headache,backache, toothache, migraine, rheumatic and muscle pain, neuralgia andmenstrual pain. Xcel®Plus also relieves aches and pains of colds and flu,sore throats and helps reduce temperature.

Dosage end Administration
Adults, including the elderly and children12 years and over: 1-2 tablets every 4 hours as required. Do not take morefrequently than every 4 hours. Maximum dose is 8 tablets in 24 hours.Xcel®Plus is not recommended for children under 12 years of age.

Use in Pregnancy and lactation
Although there is epidemiologicalevidence of the safety of paracetamol in pregnancy and lactation,medical advice should be sought before using this product.

Contraindication
Xcel®Plus is contraindicated in patients with knownhypersensitivity to paracetamol, caffeineor any other components of it.Itis also contraindicated in patient with severe renal impairment and liverdisease.

Warnings
Withdrawal effects may be seen in case of using thismedicine in large amount or in case of using for a longer period.

Precautions
Avoid drinking too much tea, coffee and alcohol whentaking Xcel®Plus.

SideEffect
In recommended doses,it is usually free from side effects.Skins rashes are reported in few cases.Caffeine may cause insomnia,nausea and headache.

Drug Interaction
Paracetamol interacts with Phenobarbital orPhenytoin; acute ingestion of alcohol markedly reduced the metabolicactivation of Paracetamol, Caffeine significantly interacts withDiazepam, Phenobarbitol, Cimetidine, lron and Alcohol.
