Toramax
Indication

Ketorolac (ToramaxTM) is indicated for treating moderate to severe acute pain, postoperative pain, dental pain, cancer pain, gynecological pain and low back pain etc.


Dosage & Administration

Oral
Adult and child over 16 years, by mouth, 10 mg every 4–6 hours (elderly every 6–8 hours) as required; max. 40 mg daily; max. duration of treatment 7 days.
Parenteral
When administering ToramaxTM injection, the IV bolus must be given over no less than 15 seconds. It is better to administer the injection with IV fluid. The IM administration should be given slowly and deeply into the muscle. The analgesic effect begins in ~30 minutes with maximum effect in 1 to 2 hours after dosing IV or IM. Duration of analgesic effect is usually 4 to 6 hours.
Single-Dose Treatment: Adult Patients: IM Dosing: Patients <65 years of age - One dose of 60 mg. Patients >65 years of age, renally impaired and/or less than 50 kg (110 lbs) of body weight - One dose of 30 mg. IV Dosing: Patients <65 years of age - One dose of 30 mg. Patients >65 years of age, renally impaired and/or less than 50 kg (110 lbs) of body weight - One dose of 15 mg. Pediatric Patients (2 to 16 years of age): The pediatric population should receive only a single dose of ToramaxTM injection, as follows: IM Dosing: One dose of 1 mg/kg up to a maximum of 30 mg. IV Dosing: One dose of 0.5 mg/kg up to a maximum of 15 mg.For IV dosing the dose can be started from 6 month of age.
Multiple-Dose Treatment (IV or IM) in Adults: Patients <65 years of age: The recommended dose is 30 mg every 6 hours. The maximum daily dose should not exceed 120 mg. For Patients >65 years of age, renally impaired patients and patients less than 50 kg (110 lbs): The recommended dose is 15 mg every 6 hours. The maximum daily dose for these populations should not exceed 60 mg.


Precautions

Patient should inform the doctor about medical history especially of any liver or kidney disease, blood disorders, ulcers, heart disease, alcohol use, high blood pressure, eye disease or allergies, especially drug allergies. Doctor should also be informed about the alcohol intake as it may intensify the drowsiness effect of this medication and make stomach or intestines more likely to bleed. Intake of Aspirin should be after consulting the doctor. Caution is advised when this drug is used in the elderly. Use in pregnancy: This medication should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Use of this drug during the last 6 months of pregnancy is not recommended. Use in lactation: This drug is excreted into breast milk. Doctor should be consulted before breast-feeding.
