Ketoroz
PRESENTATION:
Ketoroz 10 mg Tablet: Each film coated tablet contains Ketorolac tromethamine USP 10 mg.
Ketoroz 30 mg injection : Each ampoule contains 30 mg Ketorolac tromethamine USP. Ketoroz 60 mg injection : Each ampoule contains 60 mg Ketorolac tromethamine USP.

Description : Ketorolac is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, which relieves pain and reduces inflammation (swelling). Its mode of action is to inhibit the cyclo-oxygenase enzyme system and hence prostaglandin synthesis. Ketorolac is not an anesthetic agent and possesses no sedative or anxiolytic properties; therefore it is not recommended as a pre-operative medication for the support of anesthesia when these effects are required.

Indications : Ketoroz (Ketorolac tromethamine) is indicated for treating moderate to severe pain, postoperative pain, dental pain, cancer pain, gynecological pain and low back pain etc.

Dosage &Administration : Oral :Adult & child over 16 years, by mouth, 10 mg every 4-6 hours (elderly – every 6-8 hours) as required; max. 40 mg daily; max.duration of treatment 7 days.Parenteral :When administering Ketoroz injection, the IV bolus must be given over no less than 15 seconds. It is better to administer the injection with IV fluid. The IM administration should be given slowly and deeply into the muscle. The analgesic effect begins in -30 minutes with maximum effect in 1 to 2 hours after dosing IV or IM. Duration of analgesic effect is usually 4 to 6 hours. Single-Dose Treatment :Adult Patients: IM Dosing: Patients <65 years of age – one dose of 60 mg. Patients >65 years of age, renally impaired and/or less than 50 kg (110 lbs) of body weight – on dose of 30 mg. IV Dising: Patients <65 years of age – one dose of 30 mg. Patients >65 years of age, renally impaired and/or less than 50 kg (110 lbs) of body weight – on dose of 15 mg.

Padiatric Patients (2 to 16 years of age): The padiatric population should receive only a single dose of Ketoroz injection, as follows: IM Dosing: One dose of 1 mg/kg up to maximum of 30 mg. IV Dosing: One dose of 0.5 mg/kg up to maximum of 15 mg. For IV dosing the dose can be started from 6 month of age.Multiple-Dose Treatment (IV or IM) in Adults:Patients <65 years of age: The recommended dose is 30 mg every 6 hours. The maximum daily dose should not exceed 120 mg. For Patients >65 years of age, renally impaired Patients and Patients less than 50 kg (110 lbs): The recommended dose is 15 mg every 6 hours. The maximum daily dose for these populations should not exceed 60 mg.

Side Effects :
Stomach upset is the most common side effect. Nausea, vomiting, bloating, loss of appetite may also occur. If these effects become bothersome or severe, or if develop persistent stomach pain, black or bloody stools, skin rash, itching, breathing difficulties, edema (swelling of the feet or hands), ringing in the ears or vision changes while taking this medication doctor should be notified. This medication may cause dizziness, drowsiness or blurred vision. Infrequently, this medication may increase the skin’s sensitivity to sunlight. If this happens, prolonged sun exposure should be avoided by wearing protective clothing and using a sunscreen. Sunlamps should be avoided.Contraindications :Active peptic ulceration, history of peptic ulcer; hypersensitivity to ketorolac tromethamine; Aspirin /NSAID -induced allergy; Complete or partial syndrome of nasal polyps; heamorrhagicdiathese sun exposure should be avoided by wearing protective clothing and using a sunscreen. Sunlamps should be avoided.

Overdosage :
Doses of 360 mg given intramuscularly over an 8-hour interval for 5 consecutive days have caused abdominal pain and peptic ulcers which have healed after discontinuation of dosing. Two patients recovered from unsuccessful suicide attempts. One patient experienced nausea after 210 mg Ketorolac and the other hyperventilation after 300 mg of Ketorolac.

Pharmaceutical Precautions : Store in a cool dry place protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
