Maxiflox
Description
Maxiflox®is a preparation of Moxifloxacin, which is an 8-methoxy fluoroquinolone. Moxifloxacin shows antibacterialactivity by lnhibiting the topoisomerase II (responsible for replication,transcription,and repair of bacterial DNA) andtopoisomerase IV(responsible for the partitioning of thechromosomal DNA during bacterial cell division)

Indications and usage
Maxiflox®is indicated for the treatment of bacterialconjunctivitis caused by susceptible strains of the followingorganisms:

Aerobic Gram-positive microorganisms:
Corynebacterium species
Micrococcus luteus -
Staphylococcus aureus
Staphylococcus epidermidis
Staphylococcus hamolyticus
Staphylococcus hominis
Staphylococcus warneri
Streptococcus pneumoniae

Aerobic Gram-negative microorganisms :
Acinetobacter lwoffii
Haemophilus influenzae
Haemophilus parainfluenzae

Other microorganism:
Chlamydia trachomatis

Dosage and administration:
One drop in the affected eye 3 times a day for 7 days.

Use in pregnancy and lactation
Moxifloxacin solution should be used during pregnancy onlyif the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to thefetus.Although it can be presumed to be excreted inhuman milk so caution should be taken to nursing mother.

Precautions
Prolonguse of Moxifloxacin sotution may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms, including fungi. If super infection occurs,use in should be discontinued.Patients with bacterialconjunctivitis should be advised not to wear contact lenses.

Side effects
The most frequently reported ocular adverse eventsareconjunctivitis,decreased visual acuity,dry eye,keratitis,ocular discomfort,ocular hyperemia,ocular pain,ocular pruritus,subconjunctival hemorrhage and tearing.

Drug interactions
In vitro studies indicate that Moxifloxacin does not inhibit or alter the pharmacokinetics of drugs by cytochrome P450 isozymes.

Contraindications
Moxifloxacinsolution is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to Moxifloxacin,toother quinolones, or to any of the components in this medication.

Store in a cool and dry place.Protect from light.

Presentation
Maxiflox®eye drop: A clear, light yellow color,sterile aqueous solution free from any visible material.Itis anisotonic solutionthat is sterile until tne bottle is opened. Each ml contains Moxifloxacin 5 mg as Hydrochloride INN.
