C-2
Composition
C-2 – 250 tablet : Each film-coated tablet contains Cefuroxime axetil USP equivalent to Cefuroxime 250 mg.
C-2 – 500 tablet : Each film-coated tablet contains Cefuroxime axetil USP equivalent to Cefuroxime 500 mg.
C-2 powder for suspension : After reconstitution each 5 ml contains Cefuroxime axetil USP equivalent to Cefuroxime 125 mg.

Description
Cefuroxime axetil is a broad-spectrum bactericidal antibiotic, active against a wide range of common pathogens, including beta-lactamase-producing strains. it has good stability to bacterial beta-lactamase.

Indications
Upper respiratory tract infections : Ear, nose, throat infections, such as otitis media, sinusitis, tonsillitis and Pharyngitis. Lower respiratory tract infections : Acute and chronic bronchitis and pneumonia. Genito-urinary tract infections : Pyelonephritis, cystitis and urethritis, gonorrhoea, acute uncomplicated gonococcal urethritis and cervicitis. Skin & skin-Structure infections :Furunculosis, pyoderma and impetigo.

Direction for reconstitution
Add 35 ml (with the help of supplied measuring cup) cooled boiled water to the mixture in the bottle. Shake the bottle vigorously until all the powder is in suspension. The suspension should be used within 10 days after reconstitution.

Dosage and administration
Adults (13 years & above) (May be administered without regard to meals)
Pharyngitis, tonsillitis, Acute bacterial maxillary sinusitis 250 mg twice daily for 10 days; Acute bacterial exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, Uncomplicated skin & skin-Structure infections 250-500 mg twice daily for 10 days; Secondary bacterial infections of acute bronchitis &poneumonia 250-500 mg twice daily for 5-10 days; Uncomplicated urinary tract infections 125-250 mg twice daily for 7-10 days; Uncomplicated gonorrhoea 1000 mg single dose.

Paediatric patients (3 months to 12 years) (Paediatric patient should take the drug with food): Pharyngitis or tonsillitis 25 mg twice daily for 10 days; Acute otitis media, Acute bacterial maxillary sinusitis 250 mg twice daily for 10 days.

Side-effects
Generally Cefuroxime is well tolerated. However, a few side effects like nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal discomfort or pain may occur. Renal dysfunction, anaphylaxis, angioedema, pruritus, rash and serum sickness like urticaria may appear rarely (0.2%).

Contraindications
Contraindicated to patients with known allergy to Cephalosporins.

Precautions
Cefuroxime should be given with care to patients receiving concurrent treatment with potent diuretics & who have history of colitis.

Use in pregnancy & lactation
Pregnancy: Cefuroxime has been safely used in later pregnancy to treat urinary tract and other infections. Nursing mother : Cefuroxime is excreated into the milk in small quantities.

Drug interactions
No drug interactions have been reported.

Storage
Protect from light, store in a cool and dry place, Keep out of reach of children.

C-2 – 250 tablet : Each box contains 1 Alu-Alu blister strip of 10 tablets.
C-2 – 500 tablet : Each box contains 1 Alu-Alu blister strip of 8 tablets.
C-2 PFS : Each bottle contains powder to reconstitute 70 ml suspension.
