Misopa
1. What Misopa is and what it is used for?
Misopa® (Misoprostol) is a synthetic prostaglandin E1 analogue that has gastric antisecretory and mucosal protective properties. The antisecretory activity of misoprostol is mediated through a class of high affinity E-type prostaglandin receptors on the surface of gastric parietal cells. Misoprostol achieves cytoprotection by stimulation of gastric mucus secretion, duodenal bicarbonate secretion and gastric mucosal blood flow

2. Before you take Misopa
Misoprostol should not be taken by pregnant women to reduce the risk of ulcers induced by nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Misoprostol should not be taken by anyone with a history of allergy to prostaglandins.

Take special care with Misopa
Precaution should be taken in conditions where hypertension complications (e.g. Cerebrovascular and cardiovascular disease).

Taking other medicines
There is no evidence of clinically significant interaction between Misoprostol and cardiac, pulmonary and CNS drugs and NSAIDs. Bioavailability of Misoprostol is decreased with high doses of antacid.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding

3. How to take Misopa?
Taking this medicine
Always use Misopa exactly as your doctor has told you. You should check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

How much to take?
The recommended adult oral dose of Misoprostol for reducing the risk of NSAID induced gastric ulcers is 200 mcg four times daily with food.

If you take more Misopa than you should
If you have too much of this medicine, talk to your doctor straight away.

If you forget to take Misopa
If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember it. However, if it is nearly time for the next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose

If you stop taking Misopa
Do not stop taking this medicine without talking to your doctor. You should not stop taking Misopa just because you feel better. This is because the problem may come back or get worse again.
If you have any further questions on the use of this product, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

4. Possible side effects
Like all medicines, Misopa can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
GI disorders had the highest reported incidence of adverse events for patients receiving this preparation. It can cause more abdominal pain, diarrhea and other GI symptoms.

Tell your doctor if any of the side effects gets serious or lasts longer than a few days, or if you notice any side effects not listed in this leaflet

5. How to store Misopa?
Store in a cool and dry place, away from light. Keep out of reach of children
