Limaryl
Indication

Limaryl is indicated as an adjunct to diet to lower the blood glucose in patients with non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (type 2 diabetes) whose hyperglycemia cannot be controlled by diet, physical exercise and weight reduction. Limaryl is also indicated for use in combination with Insulin.


Dosage & Administration

Usual starting dose: The initial dose of Glimepiride is 1-2 mg tablet once daily, administered with breakfast or the first main meal. The maximum starting dose should not be more than 2 mg.

Maintenance dose: The usual maintenance dose is 1 to 4 mg daily. The maximum recommended dose is 8 mg once daily. After reaching a dose of 2 mg, dosage increases should be made in increments of not more than 2 mg at 1-2 weeks interval based upon the patient\'s blood glucose response.


Precautions

Glimepiride should be used with caution if the patient have experienced hospitalization for diabetes, have kidney disease, liver disease, heart disease, or any allergies. During times of stress such as fever, infection, injury or surgery, it may be more difficult to control blood sugar.



Use in children: The safety and efficacy of Glimepiride in children have not been established. Glimepiride is not recommended for use in this age group.



Use in pregnancy: This medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy.



Use in lactation: It is unknown if this drug is excreted into breast milk. Other similar drugs are excreted into breast milk. Nursing mothers must either be changed over to insulin or cease breast feeding.
