Guamin
COMPOSITION

Guamin 850 Tablet : Each tablet contains Metformin Hydrochloride BP 850 mg.

INDICATIONS

Non-insulin dependent adult diabetes mellitus, when over weight or obesity not responding to dietary therapy Guamin (Metformin) can be given alone as initial therapy or can be administered in combination with a sulfonylurea In insulin dependent diabetics, Guamin (Metformin) may be given as an adjuvant to patients whose symptoms are not well controlled and who are often obese

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

Guamin (Metformin) should be taken in divided doses with meals. The mean daily dose is 850 mg in the morning and in the evening (12 hourly), preferably after meals. Max. 2550 mg, i.e., 850 mg three times daily may be given or as directed by the physician. Normally control of diabetes is obtained within a few days, but some time requires up to two weeks.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

Hepatic or renal impairment (withdraw if renal impairment suspected), predisposition to lactic acidosis, heart failure, severe infection or trauma, dehydration, alcohol dependence, pregnancy, breast feeding etc.

PRECAUTIONS

Because of possibility of hypoglycemia in combination therapy with a sulphonylurea or insulin, diabetic control should be monitored by blood sugar readings.

SIDE EFFECTS

Guamin (Metformin) may cause gastro-intestinal adverse effects like diarrhoea, anorexia, nausea & vomiting. Lactic acidosis and malabsorption of vitamin B12 may be occurred.

DRUG INTERACTIONS

It may enhance the effects of anti-coagulants. As such patients receiving the two drugs concomitantly may need adjustment of the anti-coagulant dosage.

USE IN PREGNANCY AND LACTATION

Not recommended in pregnant and breastfeeding mothers.

STORAGE PRECAUTIONS

Store at a cool and dry place, protect from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
