Foviral
Description
Foviral® is a preparation ofTenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate which is a prodrug of Tenofovir. It is an acyclic nucleoside phosphate diester analog of adenosine monophosphate.Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate requires initial diester hydrolysis for conversion to Tenofovir and subsequent phosphorylation by cellular enzymes to form Tenofovir diphosphate, an obligate chain terminator. Tenofovir diphosphate inhibits the activity of HIV-1 reverse transcriptase and HBV polymerase by direct binding competition with the natural deoxyribonucleotide substrate and after incorporation into viral DNA, by DNA chain termination.
