Clopidol
Description:
Clopidol (Clopidogrel) is a thienopyridine derivative that inhibits platelet aggregation.

Composition:
Clopidol Tablet: Each tablet contains Clopidogrel Bisulphate USP equivalent to Clopidogrel 75 mg.

Pharmacology:
Clopidogrel is a selective ADP receptor antagonist to inhibit platelet aggregation. Clopidogrel selectively inhibits the binding of Adenosine diphosphate (ADP) to its platelet receptor and the subsequent ADP-mediated activation of the glycoprotein IIb/IIIa complex, thereby inhibiting platelet aggregation.

Indication/Use:
Clopidol is used for the reduction of atherosclerotic events in patients with atherosclerosis documented by recent stroke, recent myocardial infarction or with established peripheral arterial disease. The major indications are stroke, myocardial infarction, peripheral vascular discase.

Dosage Guideline:
The recommended dose of Clopidol is 75 mg once daily, with or without food. No dosage administration adjustment is necessary for elderly patients or patients with renal disease.

Side Effects:
The recommended dose of Clopidol is 75 mg once daily, with or without food. No dosage administration
adjustment is necessary for elderly patients or patients with renal disease.

Contraindication:
Clopidol is contraindicated in the known case of hypersensitivity to the drug; active pathological bleeding such as peptic ulcer or intracranial haemorrhage.

Drug Interaction:
Aspirin: Aspirin does not modify the Clopidol mediated inhibition of ADP induced platelet aggregation.
NSAIDs: Concomitant administration of Clopidol with NSAIDs such as Naproxen is associated with gastro intestinal blood loss.
Other antihypertensive: No clinically significant interactions have been observed when Clopidol is co-administered with atenolol, nifedipine or both atenolol and nifedipine.

Use in Pregnancy & Lactation:
Pregnancy: There are no adequate and well-controlled studies of Clopidogrel in pregnant women. However, Clopidogrel should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed.
Lactation: Clopidogrel is not recommended for use while breast-feeding. It is not known for sure whether Clopidogrel is excreted in breast milk, although it is suspected that it is.

Over Dose:
In the event of over dosage no adverse effects were reported and no therapy was substituted.

Precaution:
Clopidol should be used with caution in patients who may be at risk of increased bleeding from trauma, surgery or other pathological conditions.

Therapeutic Class:
Antihypertensive

Dosage Form:
Tablet

Storage:
Store in a cool, dry place & away from light. Keep medicines out of reach of children.
